The Gran Ruta Inca : a force for Andean integration [videorecording] / [lecture by] Ricardo Espinosa ; [sponsored by the J. Paul Getty Museum].

The road system constructed during the Inca Empire in the Andes of South America is one of the marvels of antiquity. The main north-south thoroughfare, Qhapaq Ñan, also known as the Gran Ruta Inca or the Great Inca Highland Road, is approximately 4,300 miles long. It runs from the extreme south of Colombia to central Chile and western Argentina, passing through the Andean Highlands of Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. For local communities and visitors alike, the Gran Ruta Inca is a dialog with the sacred in a landscape that is alive with beauty, connection, and meaning. Ricardo Espinosa, independent researcher, writer, and avid explorer of ancient routes, discusses the attraction of this splendid route and the efforts of the World Conservation Union to establish a network of protected areas to conserve and manage the international corridor associated with this archaeological treasure of the Andes.
